I have a safety question on helmets. My helmet is a 6 year old AGV,good condition ,no accidents. It wasn't a particularly expensive helmet, but it fits well. At what point do i know its past its use by date?

If you come off and the helmet takes a hit i'd say replace it no matter how good it looks .Perhaps the dealer where you bought it can help, but then again they will probably want to sell you a new one.

My understanding is that countries have maximum usage periods, and you can find them on your road traffic authorities website or go see them in person.
Another thing to consider is that helmets have a warranty period and must comply to the standards set by the country where you live.So if they offer 5 years warranty then thats the minimum time it should last barring accidents ofcourse.

Helmets are very much like an insurance policy, you won't find out how good it is until you really need it .
My advice for what its worth change it over every few years and buy quality.
